R+R Upcycling Program

We wanted a high barrier bag to ensure freshness but also wanted to eliminate as much single use plastic as we could. Savor Brands R+R program helped us with an excellent product that achieves both goals.

The problem with most recyclable coffee bags is that only certain facilities will actually recycle them. Additionally, the most common construction means they have a non-permeable barrier for oxygen, but not necessarily for sunlight (UV light). This means coffee could age sooner if it is displayed in a sunny area. Finally, labels and zipper closures can be made of non-recyclable materials, so they could need removal prior to processing.

Compostable bags typically are only compostable in specialized composting facilities, meaning any that don’t make it to the facility are just like any other plastic watse. Additionally, labels, zipper closures and one-way valves likely will need to be removed prior to composting.

We wanted a solution that provide a great barrier for optimal freshness, and was easy for customers process.
